Walking & Hiking

There are so many different walks you can take from Coniston that you’ll be spoiled for choice! There’s something for everyone, from easily accessible paths for children or those with disabilities to full-on rock climbing, so take your pick. The National Park runs regular guided walks and the visitor centre will happily sell you all manner of maps and walking guides. Bring your walking boots!

Coniston

The village of Coniston is nestled under the enormous crag that is The Old Man of Coniston and next to Coniston Water – one of the most beautiful areas of the Lake District.

The village itself is small with a fantastic visitor centre and a number of different pubs and shops. It’s the perfect starting point to exploring this part of the Lakes and even further afield.

Watersports

Coniston is a great place to enjoy water sports! You can visit the Coniston Boating Centre from where you can hire out motorboats, rowing boats, canoes, paddle-boards or sailing dinghies and there are also a number of launching sites for privately owned boats. If you prefer to enjoy the view and get a bit less wet, then you can opt to take a Gondola across the lake and enjoy the scenery that way.

Cycling

You can hire bikes from Coniston Boating Centre and at many other locations throughout the Lake District

Painting

If you are a budding artist then why not spend a day on a Water Colour course? Local Artist Jackie Hadwin runs all day courses and there are also various other studios to be found around the place so bring your paints and brushes and you can spend some of your break capturing the breathtaking views.
